"THE DRAGONFLIES"
4yr. olds
It is in the four year old class, that a stronger
emphasis of mathematical and language processes are
developed. These children are developing a stronger
cognitive understanding of numbers and phonemic
awareness for a purpose. More specific games and
materials, which also emphasize hands-on
experiences, are presented at various activity areas
throughout the classroom such as in the
language/message area, math, dramatic play, art
studio, blocks and sensory table.
Specific "projects", that are spontaneous interests or
specific to their understanding of the world around
them, are studied and explored during the year.
Project work may include a study of stores,
transportation vehicles, insects in our yard, or
harvesting.
Instructors observe and notice what and how children
are playing and guide them in the learning process
about topics of interest. Children participate in and
with games, learning materials, songs, finger plays,
dramatic play, art materials, cooking experiences, and
group activities all related to projects and skill
development. Movement, exercise, and the outside
equipment help develop gross motor development, as
well as cooperation and imagination.
