HISTORY
Established in 1973 as a preschool and Kindergarten. My School continues to serve children 2.8 years through 6 years old and their
families in a warm, beautifully appointed Victorian centrally located in Dover, New Hampshire.
Throughout the past 35 plus years we have offered a philosophy and program that focuses on the most important years of
development, the
early childhood years. We recognize it is during these critical years that children will explore, reflect and learn a
major portion of their cognitive, social and physical skills.
With that belief continually in mind, the
My School staff has made a concerted effort to research, investigate and apply the most
forward thinking philosophy of how children acquire knowledge and how they develop.
In 1973 our programs focused on "hands-on" experimental education. We offered the first process writing program in the area,
emphasising phonemic awareness and literature rich environments. Other curriculum areas, such as math and science offered were
also forward thinking, focusing on acquiring concepts concretely rather than rotely.
In the past six to ten years, our journey of researching and learning has led us to a more comprehensive study and understanding of
constructivism, which is the cornerstone of our philosophy today.
This journey of probing, reflecting and considering children's learning capacities, styles and capabilities continues to provoke and
challenge our dedicated learning community of staff, children and parents.
In 2007 we proudly celebrated our 35th anniversary by offering the seacoast area an early childhood environment that invites
peoples; young and old, multi-cultural, diverse learning styles, researchers and investigators, to share and collaborate in a rich and
stimulating learning process and environment.

PHILOSOPHY
My School's philosophy is based on constructivism: an understanding that all children are capable and curious. Further, that they
have a strong potential, interest and preparedness to construct and negotiate their own learning through their interactions with peers,
adults, the world around them, and symbols. Our philosophy encompasses the belief that children do not learn in isolation, but rather
in an environment that recognizes the strong collaboration of three protagonists: teachers, children and the family/community.
